Why? Why?
Why does iPothole work?
Here's how it works: You (empowered citizen), sees a pothole in the road. You launch the iPothole application and a map pops up of your location. By clicking the "Add Pothole" feature, you can mark the spot with an orange traffic cone. You can also register which lane it is in, along with the approximate size. Of course you are NOT driving while you are doing this, because you are a concerned responsible citizen who is applying their collective vision for the benefit of your community. iPothole learns the credibility of potholes based on how many users agree. It also learns the credibility of each user, over time.

Cities
Reporting and repairing potholes is a real challenge for many cities, and with shrinking budgets and increasing potholes, more than ever cities are forced to do more with less. There is another option for cities today - community engagement.

This 'civic app' is a cost effective way for city services to engage and partner with citizens, enhance 311 services, and strengthen their image as a forward-thinking city. Facilitate collaboration and take advantage of the evolving nature of the Web. iPothole is a smartphone application that allows citizens to report potholes, and positions cities to take advantage of the growing enthusiasm for social Web interaction.

Citizens
Who better to identify potholes than the citizens who drive around them daily? Users will enhance their road quality through two way report and repair technology.

iPothole.com is a planned and specific empowering of the people to identify and report potholes. A way to improve two way communication between residents and their city.

According to the online magazine Drivers.com and pothole.info, "the real benefits of [pothole reporting apps] lie in the ability to 'watch areas' to monitor issues and get feedback on results. In other words, it's entirely conceivable that individuals will take on pothole reporting as a public mission, responsible for identifying where the problem areas are."
